During the several months when Coronavirus lockdown kept me from my studio, I worked at home on a series of paintings which reconnected me with my original love of pure watercolour.
Out of this came a body of work, an example of which appears on the right, in which I re-envisioned themes and styles in my practice over 30 years. The fruit of this process formed the bulk of my solo exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh in November 2020.
Read Duncan's Macmillan's four-star review in the Scotsman.
In addition, my work is part of the On a Small Scale exhibition at the same gallery.
In 2021 I have continued this exploration in watercolour, clarifying my mark making, and finding new ways to make the colour vibrate on the paper.
I am also still offering classes. A programme is available through the Edinburgh Drawing School.
Finally, I have been creating a set of step-by-step lessons to be shared on line. For further details, see the courses page above. Should you be interested, please feel free to contact me with any questions.
In January 2018, I won Glasgow Arts Club Prize at the Open-SSA and VAS Together 2018 and the W.Gordon Smith and Mrs Jay Gordonsmith Award at the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW).
